This seat of higher learning came into existence on August 26, 1975, under the provision of the U.P. Universities Act. However, though belonging to the younger generation of the Indian Universities, the Bundelkhand University has fast transformed into a University of excellence offering opportunities to the aspiring youths to pursue higher education, applied research and Professional training according to their aptitude and potential. The sprawling 186-acre Campus of the Bundelkhand University is nestled on the either side of Jhansi – Kanpur Highway. This emerging center of excellence can be distinctly noticed with its Majestic Gates and expressively planned academic blocks intercepted with lush green parks and aesthetically laid rockeries and fountains. Over 170 academic/professional study programs including Post Graduate, Under Graduate, Diploma and Certificate courses are offered on the main Campus of the University.

The university consistently strives to strengthen the Central Library and Departmental Libraries in terms of state-of-the-art reading material including text books, manuscripts, reference literature and, research journals and magazines, particularly related to the various doctoral, post graduate and under graduate programs offered on the Campus, as well as, in affiliated colleges. The library has a collection of 72,000 books and documents and it has access to over 5000 e – Journals under UGC Infonet E Consortia Project. Automation of the library is among the immediate priorities of the University. Efforts are materialised to set up an elite reference section on various eminent Indian schools of thoughts, viz., Budhism, Gandian, Aurobindo, Ambedkar and Nehru, for which the UGC has also extended grants-in-aid. Due attention is also paid to enrich the libraries of various academic institutes and Departments of the Campus.
